The Belgian Defense Minister said that they want to deliver the aircraft to Ukraine “as quickly as possible”, and that everything possible is being done to ensure that the deliveries take place this year.
Belgian authorities have decided to transfer F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine as early as 2024, although the exact time is still unknown. Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo and Belgian Defense Minister Ludivine Dedonder announced this in a joint press conference, BRF reports.
The Minister of Defense noted that they want to deliver the aircraft to Ukraine “faster”, and everything possible is being done to ensure that the deliveries take place this year.
Dedonder added that Belgium’s defense capabilities are not at risk as a result of such a move.
De Croo emphasized that the provision of fighter jets should be financed by the income from Russia’s fixed assets, and not by Belgian taxpayers.
It was previously reported that Belgium will transfer F-16s to Ukraine in 2025.
