The Europeans are facing Russia, “a force that has lost control and no longer wants to tell us what its limits are,” the French president said.
The condition for European security is that Russia does not win an aggressive war against Ukraine. French President Emmanuel Macron said this in a keynote speech at the Sorbonne University in Paris, TF1 reports on Thursday, April 25.
“The sine qua non of our security is that Russia has not won the war of aggression that it is waging in Ukraine… Strategically, if we say that Ukraine is a necessity for our security, do we have any restrictions ?No. And so we must be reliable, contain, be present and continue the effort,” he said.
According to the French leader, the Europeans are facing a Russia “with a power that has lost its restraint and no longer wants to tell us what its limits are.”
Therefore, Macron proposed that the partners create a new defense-industrial strategy system in the next few months, the goal of which is to produce “faster and more in Europe.”
“We need European preferences for the purchase of military equipment,” said the president and called for loans for investment in weapons.
According to Macron, the situation in Europe became critical after Russia attacked Ukraine. This could lead to the death of the continent.
“We must clearly know that our Europe is mortal now, and it depends only on our choice Now the issue of peace and war on our continent has been decided,” said Macron.
According to him, faced with a nuclear-armed Russia, as well as Iran and China, “Europe finds itself in a situation of siege.”
Macron called the defense of Europe the sole responsibility of Europeans, who should not rely too much on the United States, “because they have two priorities: first of all the United States itself, and secondly the Chinese issue.”
“The time when Europe bought energy and fertilizers from Russia, goods from China and entrusted its security to the United States is over,” he concluded.
Earlier, Emmanuel Macron did not rule out sending troops to Ukraine. According to him, Russia should not win the war.
Afterwards, the Kremlin admitted that France could indeed “increase its level of involvement” in the war in Ukraine.
