The New York Times, citing an American official, writes that they were part of the March package worth $300 million. The Ukrainian Armed Forces used them twice – on April 17 to attack the airfield in Dzhankoy in Crimea and on April 23 to attack the Russians in occupied Berdyansk.
ATACMS missiles were also included in the $61 billion relief package signed by Joe Biden yesterday. The number of missiles in the new aid package was not disclosed.
Rakurs wrote that the Joe Biden administration had long doubted whether to transfer missiles with a range of up to 300 km to Ukraine. In particular, because of fears that it would weaken the US military arsenal, and also that Ukraine would use these weapons to hit targets deep inside Russia.
A Reuters source indicates that the change in Washington’s position was caused by the use of North Korean missiles by the Russian army and Russian strikes on the most important Ukrainian infrastructure facilities.
The United States has secretly sent long-range ballistic missiles to Ukraine for the first time and they have already been used on the battlefield, US officials said Wednesday.
