In 2020, a Russian man was sentenced to 14 years in prison for murder, but he was given amnesty because he came forward.
A mercenary PMC Wagner, who returned from the war, killed and raped a pensioner in the Kirov region, was sentenced to 22 years in prison. This was reported by the Russian publication ASTRA, which positions itself as independent, with reference to the human rights project Travmpunkt.
“The Kirov Regional Court sentenced a local resident to 22 years in prison in a maximum security colony, finding him guilty of several crimes: threatening to kill rape with violence and taking advantage of the helpless state of the victim , accompanied by a threat to kill; causing grievous bodily harm, and also committed with particular cruelty. The court also ordered him to pay 2,000,000 rubles as compensation for moral damages in favor of the victims’ family, ” the report said.
Sources of the publication reported that we are talking about a former mercenary of the Wagner PMC, Ivan Rossomakhin, who, returning from the war, killed and raped a pensioner.
Rossomakhin was sentenced in September 2020 to 14 years in a maximum security colony for murder and robbery with violence.
After the start of the war in the colony, he enlisted in the Wagner PMC, went to war, and then resigned and returned to his native village of Novy Burets.
Local residents complained that the former prisoner was walking around drunk with an ax and pitchfork and threatening to kill them. Police said local complaints were “heard.”
A week later, Ivan was detained in connection with the murder and rape of 85-year-old Yulia Buyskikh in the city of Vyatskie Polyany.
