In the city of Ludwigshafen (Rhineland-Palatinate) last year, 39 out of 126 first-graders failed to progress to second grade.

This year the situation has become even more difficult: according to the report, 44 out of 149 children must remain in first grade for another year, writes Bild.
Most children who can be promoted to second grade have a migration background. Often they, like their family members, speak almost no German.
About 98% of students in our school are children of migrants. No one is forced to learn German, but children need it at school, said school director Barbara Mechtle.
According to her, many children from migrant families come to school without going to kindergarten. Due to the fact that they do not speak German, they cannot study fully.
Bild previously wrote that in 2023, foreigners made up more than 40% of the total number of crime suspects in Germany.
According to the German Ministry of the Interior, just over 12 million people live in Germany without a German passport, which is 14% of the country’s population.
