The Russian support vessel for the Black Sea Fleet Kommun burned on April 21 in the port of the temporarily occupied Sevastopol thanks to the actions of the Naval Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. This was announced by the spokesman of the Ukrainian Navy, Captain 3rd Rank Dmitry Pletenchuk, reports Ukrainskaya Pravda.
“This event took place with the direct participation of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Navy. The nature of the damage to the ship has been clarified, but, according to preliminary information, the ship is no longer ready to carry out its tasks,” he said.
Pletenchuk explained that this ship was not a combat ship, but, despite its venerable age, it served in the Russian Black Sea Fleet and was operational. In particular, the Russians used the Commune when they examined the site where the flagship of the Russian Black Sea Fleet, Moscow, sank.
Kommuna is a naval auxiliary vessel of the Russian Navy, a submarine rescuer. The oldest ship in the Russian Navy and the oldest ship in service in the world.
