When significant force is applied, the accelerator pedal pad may become dislodged and the pedal may become stuck internally, according to a recall issued by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
As CNN notes, the danger of pedal sticking in the Cybertruck was previously discussed on social networks and on specialized forums.
NHTSA explained that the unstable fastening of the trim was caused by an unauthorized change in Cybertruck assembly technology at the plant in Austin, Texas. To simplify the installation of the pedal cover, soap was used at the car plant. Soap residues reduced the adhesion of the parts and the design became less reliable than planned.
A total of 3,878 pickup trucks manufactured by Tesla from November 13, 2023 to April 4, 2024 are subject to response. Almost all of these electric vehicles are located in the United States.
The Cybertruck is Tesla’s first foray into the pickup truck market. Electric pickups are assembled in Austin, Texas.
The Cybertruck was first shown in November 2019. Tesla planned to start producing electric pickups in 2021, but the deadlines have shifted by two years.
Tesla began delivering the Cybertruck to those who made pre-orders at the end of November 2023 at a price starting from $60,990.
