Despite several Covid-19 vaccinations, the patient had not responded to antibody treatment at the time of hospital admission.
The researchers found that the virus developed a resistance mutation only 21 days after taking the drug Sotrovimab. This means that the virus quickly adapted to the active ingredient to fight it, writes Bild.
The patient had a bone marrow disease that affected his stem cells and red blood cells. Then he also developed leukemia. For the treatment to take effect, he had to take so-called immunosuppressants. They suppress the immune system. Therefore, he was unable to counteract the virus with natural antibodies.
The development of the patient’s condition is nothing new to science, but the duration of the disease of 613 days is extraordinary.
