Plans are still in the early stages, and the government is considering how to finance the expanded order.
Germany is now considering buying four additional Patriot air defense systems for $1.3 billion in addition to the four already ordered by Berlin in March this year. This was reported by the Bloomberg news agency, citing a source.
The plans are at an early stage and officials are still assessing how to finance the expanded order, as its total price could rise to 2.6 billion euros.
A spokesman for the German Ministry of Defense declined to comment on specific procurement projects, but reiterated the government’s commitment to better equip the armed forces.
The budget committee of the lower house of the German parliament last month approved the purchase of the first four Patriots. The first of these systems should be delivered before the end of next year.
The Bundeswehr plans to use the complex as an important ground-based air defense system until 2030.
We remind you that Germany will transfer additional Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine. The information was confirmed by President Vladimir Zelensky after a conversation with Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
