This was announced today, April 19, on the Facebook page of the Ministry of Development of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure of Ukraine.
The RELINC project was initiated by Ukraine and the World Bank. The procurement and delivery of bridge systems is handled by the UN Office for Project Services in Ukraine. The total value of the contract is 23.3 million US dollars. The entire batch – 18 sets – is already in Ukraine, the message states.
In addition, modular bridge systems supplier ACROW Corporation of America also donated a separate container containing bridge installation equipment such as jacks and expansion joints to the Agency.
Modular bridges make it possible to quickly restore transport links where permanent engineering structures are destroyed or damaged as a result of hostilities, as well as ensure the logistics of goods and cargo, the department notes.
It is noted that Ukraine has experience in using modular bridges. Since December 2022, the country has received:
- six modular bridges from Sweden;
- 18 from the Czech Republic;
- 10 from Norway;
- France handed over 3 temporary bridges – each designed for a specific task and object;
- Finland is preparing an aid package that will also include temporary bridges.
- in June 2023, the first modular bridges arrived in Ukraine from American funds – the non-profit The Conflict and Development Foundation (CDF) and the Howard Buffett Foundation, which finances the supply of nine modular bridges to Ukraine.
