In Ukraine, the number of convicts is growing rapidly, and the number of correctional institutions is decreasing.
Mobilizing men in prison would solve two problems at once: overcrowding in Ukrainian prisons and the need for the Ukrainian army to be replenished with fighters. The Minister of Justice of Ukraine, Denis Malyuska, announced this on Thursday, April 18, during a telethon.
“We won in two aspects, first, we will have military personnel a limited number of prisons,” – said Maluska.
He clarified that currently the number of prisoners is increasing rapidly, especially because of collaborators and traitors, who have recently been systematically sent to prison. The number of correctional colonies is decreasing.
“At some stage we can explode, so we have to think about how to reduce the number of those we care for in our institutions,” said Maluska.
“Accordingly, I can say that the number of people in every institution in every area of the institution is growing, and it is a big problem and it has to be solved somehow even if it is a recipe that will save us at least one year or two,” Malyuska emphasized.
On April 10, the Verkhovna Rada adopted as a basis a bill allowing the mobilization of convicted persons.
