Acting Minister of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine Rostislav Karandeev announced this today, April 17, on his Facebook page.
The Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine, by its order, recognized the former object of cultural heritage, the Monument to commemorate the reunification of Ukraine with Russia, as not subject to inclusion in the State Register of Immovable Monuments of Ukraine, he noted.
Thus, the monument has lost its status as a historical monument and can be dismantled.
In the public consciousness of Kiev residents, the monument is identified with the Soviet regime; it is no coincidence that residents of the capital call it “the yoke.” By getting rid of the monumental “yoke,” we are freeing ourselves from the remnants of the Soviet dictatorship and Russian imperial influence,” notes Karandeev.
