House Speaker Mike Johnson has promised to bring a bill containing aid to Ukraine to a vote on Saturday, April 20.
US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Charles Brown called on the US Congress to quickly approve aid to Ukraine. They announced this on Wednesday, April 17, at a meeting of the House Defense Appropriations Subcommittee, AP reports.
According to Brown, Ukraine already needs military weapons, which have been delayed by Congress’s failure to pass a funding package.
“It’s ammunition, it’s vehicles, it’s platforms. I’ll just tell you that Ukraine is now facing terrible conditions on the battlefield,” he emphasized.
The Pentagon chief stressed that time is of the essence when it comes to supporting Ukraine.
“We can already see that the situation on the battlefield is starting to change little by little in Russia’s favor. We can see how they are gradually advancing. We can see that the Ukrainians are having a hard time holding the line,” Lloyd Austin said .
US President Joe Biden said he fully supports House Speaker Mike Johnson’s initiative to help Ukraine and Israel, as well as provide necessary humanitarian assistance to the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and strengthen stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
We remind you that Mike Johnson said that the vote on bills containing aid to Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan will take place on Saturday, April 20.
As reported, the US House of Representatives published three separate draft laws on aid to Ukraine, Israel and allies in the Indo-Pacific region. The document, in particular, directs the US President to provide Ukraine with ATACMS missiles and agree to the reimbursement of economic aid from Kiev.
