At the beginning of 2024, Ukraine found itself in a difficult situation due to insufficient funds, weapons and ammunition.
The government of Ukraine was forced to spend $4 billion on the purchase of weapons due to the lack of shells and weapons promised by its partners. Finance Minister Sergei Marchenko wrote this on Facebook on Wednesday, April 17.
The minister said that, together with President Vladimir Zelensky (via video link) and Prime Minister Denis Shmygal, he took part in the fifth ministerial round table of the World Bank and the IMF in Washington, where Ukraine was discussed.
In his speech to his partners, Marchenko noted the difficult situation in which Ukraine found itself at the beginning of the year due to insufficient funds and weapons.
“4 billion US dollars is the exact amount of money spent by the government on the purchase of weapons, in conditions where there are not enough shells and weapons promised by partners And this has negative consequences for the budget,” said Marchenko.
He noted that the absence or delay of aid affects the situation on the battlefield, and also reduces the economic potential of Ukraine, the minister emphasized.
He called on partners to speed up the search for a mechanism for using frozen Russian assets in favor of Ukraine.
“To win, it’s critical that we have to match the military’s resources with the aggressor’s resources,” Marchenko said.
Let’s remember that Stoltenberg previously said that NATO will change the format of aid to Ukraine. This will ensure its predictability and stability.
