Several Russian propaganda media reported this on April 15.
The Putinsky district will be separated from the already existing Sheikh-Mansurovsky district. The Grozny mayor’s office claims that in early April they held a vote among residents using door-to-door visits. According to the authorities, 34,705 respondents voted for the name “Putin’s” and only about 200 people offered “their own answer.”
The City Duma has already recognized the survey and sent materials to the regional parliament to adopt a law on the creation of a new district.
In 2008, the main street of Grozny, Pobeda Avenue, was renamed Vladimir Putin Avenue. The decree of the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, noted that this was done “for outstanding services in the fight against terrorism, restoration of the economy, and social sphere of the Chechen Republic.”
