The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, which initiated the cancellation, stressed that Russian “cultural” propaganda “should have no place on international platforms, and Russian ballerinas should have no place on the stages of the world’s theaters.”
In South Korea, a day before the premiere, the tour of the Russian ballet was canceled. This decision was made after a petition from the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry reported on Monday, April 15.
They noted that this is another step of Ukrainian diplomacy for the international isolation of the Russian Federation in the field of culture.
“Thanks to the efforts of the Ukrainian Embassy in the Republic of Korea and the support of the Ukrainian society and international partners, the performance of the Russian prima ballerina with the Modance project at the Seoul Art Center and the Gala concert of the Bolshoi Theater ballet in the capital of South Korea will no longer happen,” the message said.
The Foreign Ministry emphasized that Russian “cultural” propaganda “should have no place on international stages, and Russian ballerinas should have no place on the stages of world theaters.”
According to Reuters, a ballet show featuring dancers from Russia was canceled a day before the premiere. The concerts, held from Tuesday to Thursday in Seoul, will first feature the Bolshoi’s 12 principal dancers. Then the program was changed, and the number of Russian artists was reduced. However, on April 15, the organizer announced the cancellation of the concerts on social networks, saying that the changes were not accepted by the concert hall.
The Russian Embassy in South Korea expressed “deep regret” over the cancellation of the performances.
It was previously reported that ballerinas of the Moscow Bolshoi Theater were left without pointe shoes due to sanctions.
We remind you that in Lithuania the performance of the American singer LP was canceled after he wore a hoodie with the symbols of the Russian Federation. Afterwards, LP apologized to fans and expressed support for Ukraine.
