Defense attorneys argued that the gun charges should be dropped for several reasons.
A federal judge in Delaware, USA, has refused to drop weapons charges against current US President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden. It was reported by Reuters.
US District Judge Meryellen Noreiko in Wilmington ruled against Hunter Biden’s request to dismiss two counts of lying about his drug use and a third count of illegal possession of those weapons.
The decision clears the way for a trial on the weapons charge, tentatively scheduled to begin June 3 in Wilmington. However, he pleaded not guilty.
Hunter Biden faces more than 20 years in prison if convicted on the weapons charge.
His lawyers argued that the gun charges should be dismissed for several reasons, including that the law under which he was charged was likely unconstitutional after the US Supreme Court expanded gun rights.
Let’s recall that the telephone conversation between the US President and his Ukrainian counterpart Vladimir Zelensky on July 25, 2019 caused a scandal and led to the launch of Trump’s impeachment proceedings.
According to opponents of the American leader, during the call he tried to influence Zelensky to start an investigation into the activities of Biden’s son in Ukraine in exchange for providing financial and military assistance to Kyiv.
In addition, Donald Trump, at a meeting with voters in Ohio, told a completely fictional story about his phone conversation with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, which took place in 2019.
