The overwhelming majority – 55% – of respondents were in favor of Ukraine joining NATO after the war.
The number of German citizens who believe that the West should increase military aid to Ukraine has increased since February 2024. This was confirmed by the results of a ZDF-Politbarometer survey on Friday 12 April.
In February 2024, 33% of Germans were in favor of increasing Western military aid to Ukraine. Currently, their share has increased to 42%.
31% of respondents believe that arms aid to Kyiv should remain at the current level (in February – 33%), and 22% (in February – 28%) believe that it should decrease.
In addition, the proportion of Germans who doubt that Ukraine can win on the battlefield has increased.
Those who do not believe this are 82% in the ZDF survey. This is an increase from the previous high of 70% in August 2023. Only 8% hope for a military victory for Ukraine (in August 2023 there were 21%).
The survey also showed that an overwhelming majority (55%) of respondents were in favor of Ukraine joining NATO after the war, while 36% were against it.
As we have already written, according to a sociological study by IPSOS/Euronews, 45% of EU residents want to see Ukraine as the next member in the expansion of the European Union.
