The Trypillya thermal power plant in the Kyiv region was completely destroyed as a result of a Russian strike on Thursday, April 11.
As a result of the attack on April 11, the Russians completely destroyed the Trypillya thermal power plant in the Kyiv region – the largest in the region. Station workers were not injured. As a result of the hits, a large-scale fire occurred in the turbine shop.
Consequences
PJSC Centrenergo, after the destruction by the Russians of the Zmievskaya Thermal Power Plant in the Kharkov region and the Uglegorskaya Thermal Power Plant in the Donetsk region, lost 100% of its generation.
Trypilska Thermal Power Plant is the most powerful power plant in the Kiev region. It is the largest electricity supplier in Kyiv, Cherkasy and Zhytomyr regions. The business occupies an area of 281.3 hectares. The thermal power plant is located in the town of Ukrainka, Obukhovsky district, on the shore of the Kaniv reservoir.
The loss of the Trypilska TPP means a reduction in internal capacity to cover consumption at peak times.
“As long as solar power plants are operating, there is a surplus in the system, there is little export. At the maximum night consumption – from 19:00 to 22:00 – a slight shortage is possible,” reported Ukrenergo.
As noted by Ukrenergo, during the night hours, the activity of solar generation decreases and the internal capacity is not enough to cover the consumption, and there is no import of electricity in the required volumes. Accordingly, it may be necessary to obtain emergency assistance from neighboring countries. “If there are restrictions on consumption, we will let you know. For now, we will try to get through the night hours without them,” said Ukrenergo.
The company also noted that the most difficult situation with energy supply after the attack was in Kharkov. Energy facilities in the region were hit again. In addition, the situation is unpredictable from the point of view of the fact that the Russians are not giving up on attempts to cut off Kharkov from the energy system. “Therefore, it is difficult to make predictions about when it will be fixed – it depends on the next attacks and their consequences. At the moment, the emergency shutdown schedules are in effect there and will take effect at various level,” added Ukrenergo.
What did they beat you for?
To shell the thermal power plant, the Russian occupiers could use new X-69 cruise missiles, which would allow them to completely destroy the station, reported the military portal Defense Express, citing sources.
The missile launch range is about 400 km. The main feature is the possibility of ultra-low flight at a height of 20 meters.
The launch from tactical aircraft neutralized the characteristic sign of a large-scale missile attack, when the takeoff of strategic bombers Tu-95MS and MiG-31K was recorded.
The missile’s range of 400 km is enough to destroy a significant number of objects on the territory of Ukraine from tactical aircraft, which can approach the border at a distance of 50-70 km.
It is noteworthy that in August 2023, Centerenergo stated that the Trypilska Thermal Power Plant was equipped with 100% physical protection against shelling.
