The head of the Main Intelligence Directorate appreciated the Pope’s proposal for the exchange of prisoners between Ukraine and the Russian Federation “all for all.”

The head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense, Kirill Budanov, supported the idea of Pope Francis, who during Easter suggested that Russia and Ukraine conduct a prisoner exchange in “all for all” which format. He said this in an interview with ARD.

“I fully support this. Let’s do it. There is only one small thing left: to convince Russia,” said the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate, adding that he has not yet seen interest from Moscow.

Budanov also added that currently the central mediator in prisoner of war exchanges is not Turkey, but the United Arab Emirates.

Let’s remember that on March 31, the Pope, in a speech on the occasion of Easter, called on Ukraine and Russia to exchange prisoners according to the “all for all” formula.

In early February, Ukraine returned another 100 defenders from Russian captivity, many of whom had been in captivity for nearly two years.

Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Dmitry Lubinets said that the Russian side is delaying the exchange of prisoners.
