The Norwegian government presented a plan unprecedented in the country’s history to strengthen all kinds of defense for the next 12 years.
The Norwegian government has approved a plan to almost double defense spending until 2036. This was stated in a government statement published on Friday, April 5.
The plan calls for an increase in defense spending of NOK 600 billion ($56 billion) by 2036.
“We need protection in relation to the current situation and taking into account potential threats. The presented plan is an unprecedented incentive for the Norwegian armed forces in the history of the country, it involves a significant strengthening of all kinds of defense,” said the Norwegian. Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.
In total, the Norwegian government will spend NOK 1.624 billion on Norwegian defense over the next 12 years. During that time, the defense budget will be almost twice as large as it is today.
We remind you that Estonia plans to invest more than 3% of GDP in defense in the coming years. Polish President Andrzej Duda called on NATO countries to increase defense spending from 2 to 3% of GDP.
