According to the State Emergency Service, more than a quarter of the territory of Ukraine is contaminated with mines and explosive objects. The worst situation remains in the occupied regions.
International partners have allocated more than $700 million equivalent to Ukraine for humanitarian demining projects for 2022-2027. Major donors include USA, Switzerland, Norway, Japan, Netherlands, Germany and others. The Ministry of Economy reported this on Thursday, April 4.
The ministry clarified that it is not only about financial support for mine clearance, but also about attracting the best technologies, skills and specialists in this field to Ukraine.
“The government will strengthen the coordination of mine action activities with the international and professional community,” indicated the Ministry of Economy.
They reported that coordination will be carried out both through the Sectoral Working Group, launched in 2023, uniting all Ukrainian donors in this area, and through the mine action cluster restored in March 2024, which a platform for coordinating related entities.
Officials note that large areas of our country remain mined, and since the start of Russia’s large-scale invasion, there have been 656 mine-related accidents. The explosions killed 296 civilians and injured another 665.
It was previously reported that in Ukraine the most contaminated by explosive materials are the regions of Kharkov, Donetsk and Kherson.
We remind you that in Kupyansk, Kharkov region, a 43-year-old man died as a result of an explosion in his own garden. In the village of Shirokaya Balka, Kherson region, a local resident was blown up by enemy bullets while working in the field.
