New Zealand seeks to strengthen cooperation with NATO and increase support for the defense of Ukraine. New Zealand Foreign Minister Winston Peters said this on Thursday, April 4, Reuters reports.
“New Zealand is committed to working with NATO partners to contribute to collective security, for example through our support for the defense of Ukraine,” Peters said.
He noted that the outcome of the war in Ukraine will have an impact on global security, and that is why “New Zealand must be ready to do its part.”
Peters added that New Zealand was negotiating a new type of partnership with NATO.
“We hope to finalize this partnership in the coming months, agreeing on specific areas of cooperation,” added the Foreign Minister.
New Zealand has announced a new aid package for Ukraine. The planned cost of the aid package is $25.9 million.
It was previously reported that Ukrainians in New Zealand will receive permanent residence permits.
