The country now has more than 130 thousand elephants; it previously transferred 8 thousand animals to Angola.
Botswana promises to send 20 thousand elephants to Germany if Berlin introduces a ban or restriction on the import of hunting trophies from the African country. The BBC wrote this on Wednesday, April 3.
Botswana authorities say that the ban will affect not only the national treasury, but also nature reserves that ensure the conservation and control of wild animal populations, as well as the general population.
The President of the African country, Mokgwitsi Makgwitti Massisi, said that if the German “vegetables”, who promote the introduction of restrictions, have a better understanding of the issue, they should show how to live a people with elephants without hunting.
“20,000 wild elephants for Germany. This is no joke. If you want them, please accept this gift from us. You must live with the animals the way you tell us,” said Massisi.
According to the President of Botswana, there are now more than 130 thousand elephants in the country. He said Botswana was suffering from elephant overpopulation.
“They trample people, destroy crops and destroy villages. Hunting is a form of population control, and the ban encourages hunting.”
Earlier, German “greens”, including German Environment Minister Steffi Lemke, said that Berlin sought to introduce a ban or restriction on African trophies.
Let’s recall that earlier the Pakistani elephant Kaavan, dubbed “the saddest elephant in the world,” became interested in the woman after moving to Cambodia.
