Ukraine is conducting complex multi-level negotiations on unblocking grain exports, but so far has had no success.
Russia needs a world food crisis to put pressure on states that have imposed sanctions against it. There is no progress in reopening Ukrainian ports to resume grain exports, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said at a meeting of the Bureau of the African Union Assembly on Monday, June 20.
“They are trying to use you and the suffering of the people to put pressure on democratic states that have imposed sanctions against Russia. I emphasize: the policy of sanctions is only aimed at Russia to stop trying to enslave Ukraine, ”Zelensky said.
He also explained the problems in negotiations to unblock the ports.
“We are in complex multi-level negotiations to unblock Ukrainian ports. But you see, there is no progress yet. Because no real tool has yet been found to ensure that Russia will not attack them again,” the president said.
He recalled that in conditions of war, Ukraine increased grain exports by rail, but it was not enough.
According to Zelensky, the world food crisis will “continue as long as the war of colonialism continues, Russia’s war against our state, and as long as our ports are blocked.”
In addition, the President recalled that Ukraine is one of the major European producers of fertilizers. “And now production has really stopped – again because of the war. Some manufacturers have no raw materials and the opportunity to even work – because of the threat of Russian missile strikes and other consequences of operations “Some companies are already in the war zone and were simply defeated by Russian troops,” he said.
“Have you heard about it from your partners in Russia with whom you keep in touch? Have they told you about it? I’m sure they’ll tell you completely different things,” Zelensky added.
Last week, Russian President Vladimir Putin said the Russian Federation was not interfering with the export of Ukrainian grain.
In Ukraine, Russia’s promises and statements are not believed.
