Democrats in Congress found themselves in a stretch amid Speaker Johnson’s announcement of aid to Ukraine

Democrats in the US Congress face a difficult choice amid recent statements by Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson regarding the Ukraine aid bill.

    .

Several American publications write about this, Voice of America reports.

Democrats are forced to either make concessions, agree to the changes they propose, or refuse amendments that again jeopardize the approval of funding for Ukraine.

The American press indicates that Speaker Johnson himself is interested in making a compromise.

First, the bill would likely need support from two-thirds of the House of Representatives, including Democratic opponents, to support the bill.

Secondly, the threat of dismissal hangs over him and in order to protect himself, he may also need the support of the Democrats, as Voice of America recently wrote about.

Axios, citing its sources in Congress, writes that aid to Ukraine will likely be voted on as a separate law. They say that funding for Israel and Taiwan, other US allies, causes fewer contradictions among Republicans.

US assistance to Ukraine may have some “innovations”. Speaker of the House of Representatives Johnson announced this earlier. He explained that this meant, for example, the option of providing Ukraine with credit assistance, which was discussed before.

In this way, he believes, it is possible to reassure conservatives who believe that the United States is doing “too much” for Ukraine. In addition, the option of providing Ukraine with assistance in the form of income from frozen Russian assets is being considered.

The Ukraine Assistance Act will be put to a vote by the US Congress after April 9, Republicans say.
