Almost a third of those killed in March were from Sevastopol. A similar ratio was observed in January of this year.
The human rights initiative Crimean Episode reported that in March 2024, at least 30 Crimeans were killed on the battle lines in Russia’s war against Ukraine.
According to analysts, every sixth of them participated in the battles not voluntarily, but as a result of the mobilization carried out by the Russian military in the occupied territory of Crimea.
Experts estimate that the structure of losses is not particularly different from previous months. Thus, in only two cases it was confirmed that those killed took part in the battle in exchange for release from prison, 5 were called for mobilization, and 18 were contract soldiers, including volunteer formations.
It was noted that almost a third of those killed in March were from Sevastopol. A similar ratio was observed in January of this year. In second place geographically is Simferopol, which received at least four “burials” this month. Three cases each were recorded in Kirovsky and Krasnoperekopsky districts.
It was previously reported that during Crimea’s occupation of the peninsula, 60 people died on the peninsula due to political repression by the Russian Federation, 28 of whom were Crimean Tatars.
Let’s remember that, according to the head of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, Refat Chubarov, about 50 thousand Crimean Tatars were forced to leave Crimea.
