If it is not demonstrated by the end of 2024 that the telethon has changed its format, then it will be necessary to think about ending it.

Yaroslav Yurchyshyn spoke about this in an interview with RBC-Ukraine.
He noted that at the end of the year the government will consider whether this format of news production should continue, in particular due to cuts in international financial assistance.
For 2024, the broadcast of the telethon has already been financed by the state, so it is unlikely to be completed before the end of the year if the TV channels themselves decide to stop the overall project.
With the only marathon, trust in the authorities also begins to fall, and this is quite reasonable, because we announced that the only marathon is an official source. This is the mouthpiece of power. If trust in the mouthpiece decreases, trust in the one holding this mouthpiece decreases. The question begins to arise as to who else might invest in the marathon. We are now seeing a downward trend in the use of a single telethon and an upward trend in the use of social networks. And then it will be even more difficult to explain to our international partners and our people why we are funding an ineffective information policy,” Yurchyshyn said.
Previously, a petition to redirect funds allocated for the United News and FREEDOM telethons to finance the Armed Forces of Ukraine received the required 25,000 votes.
The author of the petition, military man Pavel Bilous, is convinced that United News and FREEDOM are “extremely expensive” for the state budget. He noted that in 2022 and 2023, UAH 2.13 billion was spent on them.
That amount could buy more than 21,500 DJI Mavic 3000 quadcopters—4,000 pickups, he claims.
By 2024, financing telethons will cost the state budget 1.5 billion UAH.
