Two years have passed since the de-occupation of the city. However, there are still people considered missing. Their search continues. In total, after the de-occupation, the bodies of 422 killed civilians were discovered in Bucha, and 1,190 bodies were found in the Buchansky district. Deputy Head of the National Police Andrei Nebitov stated this during the telethon.
According to him, law enforcement officers have launched more than 116 thousand criminal proceedings on the facts of war crimes by Russian invaders in Ukraine. Of this amount, 23 thousand were committed by enemies in the Kyiv region.
Today, President Vladimir Zelensky, on the second anniversary of the liberation of the Kyiv region from Russian occupiers, honored the memory of the Ukrainians killed during the occupation of the Buchany community.
This war has global significance… And our people killed by the invaders, whose bodies lay on the streets of Bucha, were evidence that no one in the world should remain aloof from this battle. Because it is here, in Ukraine, protecting our people, our lives, our state, that humanity wins,” said the head of state.
As you know, Russian occupiers captured Bucha on February 27, 2022. The city was under occupation for 33 days – all this time war criminals destroyed houses with shelling, tortured and killed civilians. Ukrainian armed forces liberated the city on March 31. Numerous mass graves and dungeons were discovered in the city.
Let us recall that in February, the international human rights organization Human Rights Watch (HRW) released new data on the destruction by Russia of the city of Mariupol, Donetsk region, in 2022. After analyzing satellite images, it became known that from March 2022 to February 2023, more than 10 thousand people were buried there.
