The number of cases of domestic violence in Ukraine in 2023 increased by 20% compared to the previous year.
In 2023, the National Police of Ukraine registered more than 291 thousand cases of domestic violence, which is 20% more than in 2022. The Ministry of Internal Affairs reported this on Saturday, March 30.
Police say that the trend in such violations continues to rise.
“Within two months of 2024, 56% more criminal offenses related to domestic violence were registered in Ukraine, and 21% more administrative offenses related to domestic violence,” the report said.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs said that together with the representatives of the people they initiated bill No. 8329 on amendments to the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses related to the adoption of the Council of Europe Convention on preventing violence against women and domestic violence and combating these phenomena. (Istanbul Convention), which proposed to strengthen responsibility for committing domestic violence or gender-based violence.
We remind you that earlier in Nikopol, law enforcement officers detained a man who systematically beat and tortured the 5-year-old son of his partner.
Let’s recall that almost a year ago Ukraine completed the ratification of the Istanbul Convention.
