The country has a lot of equipment that is still in operation and is about to be decommissioned.
France has decided to move decommissioned military equipment to Ukraine instead of just throwing it away. This is what French Armed Forces Minister Sebastien Lecornu said in an interview with Var-Matin.
The journalist noted that in France there is some criticism about the supply of weapons seized from national stocks. To which the minister replied that there are many opinions on this issue.
“From those who think we’re giving too much, and from those who think we’re not giving enough. We clearly see that we’re talking a little shallow and sometimes politicized, because the campaign has started in the European elections,” said the minister.
He even made it clear that there is a certain red line that he will never cross. This has to do with weakening the French defense system.
“Regarding the weapons we got from our armies, for example about the Caesar guns, of course they messed up the training schedule of our artillerymen, especially the Canjuers, but other than that it didn’t weaken our artillery system,” he explained.
Lecornu also said that France is reinvesting significant funds in the army; according to the plan for 2024-2030, 413 billion euros should be spent.
The minister noted that in France there is a lot of equipment that is still working and will not be turned on in the future. And, according to the minister, it is better to give this equipment, as well as the equipment, to Ukraine rather than throw it away.
Earlier, Lecornu said that France is ready to forcefully buy defense companies to help Ukraine.
