Ukraine has addressed the European Commission with a proposal to conduct an urgent screening of the law on agricultural and transport policy.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Denis Shmigal, after meeting with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk on Thursday, March 28, said that there is progress in the implementation of the plan to unblock the Ukrainian-Polish border for agricultural products.

“The governments of Ukraine and Poland today discussed the issues of unblocking borders for agricultural products. Ukraine proposed a five-step plan for this. We can say that there is progress in their implementation ,” Szmigal said.

The Prime Minister said that Ukraine has agreed to restrictions, including restrictions, proposed by the European Commission on Ukrainian agricultural exports.

“This is a compromise necessary for our countries so that agricultural exports from Ukraine do not pose even a theoretical threat to Polish agricultural producers,” Szmigal clarified.

It was also reported that Ukraine approached the European Commission with a proposal to conduct an urgent screening of the law on agricultural and transport policy. The Ukrainian Prime Minister hopes that this will happen by the end of April.

“Russian and Belarusian agricultural exports to the EU must stop. We thank the Polish Government and the Sejm, which accepted the corresponding call to the European Commission. Our voice was heard in Brussels. The European Commission proposed the introduction of a 50% increase in duties on agricultural products from Russia and Belarus, including grain imports. The new rates should really stop this trade,” Szmigal outlined the next step of the plan.

Among the proposals is the creation of an anti-crisis headquarters.

“We have already established regular contact between our ministers of agriculture and economy. Yesterday we added associations to this cooperation. The latest meeting of the Joint Coordination Platform on Export and Transit of Ukrainian Agricultural Products testified to readiness of the parties to develop joint decisions,” emphasizes Szmigal.

In addition, Ukraine asked Poland to allow free border crossing not only for ammunition and humanitarian aid, but also for fuel.

“This is important because it is directly related to national security issues. Poland has added border checkpoints and neighboring routes to the list of critical infrastructure facilities. We have done the same,” read the message of Shmygal.

The Prime Minister emphasized that there are positive trends and dynamics for unblocking the border, and it is important to maintain this momentum and continue.

It was previously reported that Szmigal arrived in Poland and met with the head of the government, Donald Tusk. They planned to discuss the issues of arms supplies to Ukraine, the border situation, the development of trade and infrastructure.

Today it became known that Polish farmers have unblocked the Ugrinov-Dolgobychev border checkpoint.
