Krisjanis Karin is leaving her post amid a scandal involving flights on private planes for public funds.
Latvian Foreign Minister Krisjanis Karins announced his resignation on Thursday, March 28. Delfi reported this.
The Foreign Minister met with Prime Minister Evika Silina to discuss the situation with the use of private flights for work trips when she led the previous government.
After the meeting, Karin said that she informed Silina of her resignation. The minister said he will leave his post on April 10, when the Seimas decides to fire him.
According to media reports, Kariņš’s successor could be Seimas deputy Zanda Kalniņa-Lukashevica, who has many years of experience in the field of foreign affairs and previously served as parliamentary secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
