This became known on March 25. Let us remind you that General Bocharova Street is named after SBU Master Sergeant Vyacheslav Buvalkin, Makhachkala Street will now be named after Vitaly Blazhko, Kamanin Street – Valery Samofalov, Maria Demchenko – Denis Maksishko, Yakutskaya Street – Igor Bedzya.
The last two are located next to the 411 Coastal Battery Memorial. In the future, it is planned to create an area of toponyms around the Memorial in honor of the heroes of the Russian-Ukrainian war.
On February 21, a rally was held under the walls of the city hall, the participants of which demanded that large Odessa streets be named after the Heroes of Ukraine.
Thus, it was proposed to rename General Bocharova Street in honor of Vyacheslav Buvalkin, General Petrov to be named after Denis Maksishko, Zhukovsky – Vitaly Blazhko, Gagarin Avenue – Igor Bedzai. In particular, the Navy command and the wife of a military man opposed the renaming of Yakutskaya Street in the outskirts of the city in honor of the deceased defender of Zmeiny Igor Bedzai.
However, city council deputies did not support the renaming project. The mayor renamed previously chosen place names by executive order as part of the decolonization law.
