The government responded to US calls not to strike Russian refineries

Oil refineries on the territory of the Russian Federation are legitimate targets for the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Deputy Prime Minister Stefanishina emphasized.

Russian oil refineries are legitimate Ukrainian targets from a military perspective. In this case, the Armed Forces of Ukraine operate according to NATO standards. This was stated by the Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Olga Stefanishina during the Kyiv Security Forum.

“We understand the calls of our American partners. At the same time, we are fighting with the capabilities, resources and skills we have today,” he said.

Stefanishyna said that in February 2022, at the beginning of a full-scale war, she spoke with NATO headquarters, and there they explained to her what the Alliance understood as “closing the skies” over Ukraine.

“They said:” Olga, you don’t understand NATO standards. In NATO’s understanding, this means, first of all, destroying the infrastructure on the territory of the Russian Federation, which makes it possible to bomb Ukrainian cities. Factories that produce missiles.” Therefore, we act in accordance with the best standards of NATO,” said the Deputy Prime Minister.

Let’s remember that, according to the Financial Times, the United States called on Ukraine to stop attacking the Russian energy infrastructure, because the drone strike on Russian oil refineries in the Russian Federation could lead to an increase in the price of oil in the world.

As you know, since the beginning of the year, 13 Russian oil refineries have been attacked. Drone strikes on Russian refineries led to the biggest weekly increase in global oil prices of the year.
