It is hoped that this will allow American intelligence to observe what is happening on Earth.

SpaceX is building a network of spy satellites for the US intelligence agency. Five sources familiar with the program told Reuters about it.

The network is being built under a $1.8 billion contract signed in 2021 with the National Reconnaissance Office, the intelligence agency that operates the spy satellites.

It will consist of hundreds of satellites in low orbit and will be able to photograph the Earth’s surface. If successful, the program is expected to improve the ability of the US government and military to quickly identify potential targets for military strikes almost anywhere in the world.

It is not known when the new network of satellites will be launched and which companies are participating in the program under their own contracts.

We remind you that the United States has launched an investigation into Elon Musk’s company SpaceX due to reports of the use of the Starlink satellite Internet service by Russian troops in Ukraine.

Musk insisted that SpaceX is not selling Starlink terminals to Russia directly or indirectly.
