The Georgian government expressed its concern about the presence of members of Saakashvili’s team in high positions in Ukraine, who are criminals in Georgia, and called for their extradition.
We are talking about Advisor to the Prosecutor General of Ukraine Zurab Adeishvili and Deputy Head of the Counterintelligence Service of Ukraine Georgy Lortkipanidze.
The statement notes that it is important and necessary for the Ukrainian authorities to transfer to Georgia the persons currently holding high positions in the Ukrainian authorities.
Adviser to the Prosecutor General of Ukraine Adeishvili is a former Prosecutor General and Minister of Justice of Georgia.
Deputy Chairman of Ukrainian Military Intelligence Lortkipanidze is a former Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia.
In his homeland, a criminal case has been opened against Lortkipanidze – the Georgian authorities accuse him of helping Saakakshvili get to Georgia in the spring of 2021.
Over the past two years, Georgia has adamantly expressed its solidarity with the Ukrainian state and the Ukrainian people and condemned Russia’s military aggression against our friendly country. Georgia officially joined more than 600 decisions developed on international platforms that provided support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine and condemnation of Russian military aggression. In addition, Georgia provides enormous humanitarian assistance to the friendly Ukrainian people. We express our hope that the Ukrainian authorities will reconsider decisions that grossly contradict the spirit of friendship between Georgia and Ukraine, the Georgian and Ukrainian peoples. First of all, it is important and necessary for the Ukrainian authorities to transfer to Georgia the criminals who now occupy high positions in the Ukrainian authorities,” the Georgian government said in a statement.
Let us remind you that over the past two years Georgia:
- did not join sanctions against the aggressor under the guidance of “reluctance to escalate from Russia”;
- in 2022, increased trade turnover with Russia by 50%;
- accused Ukraine of involvement in preparing a rebellion in that country;
- ignored Ukrainian demands to fire Saakashvili, whose health is rapidly deteriorating in prison.
