The Kremlin hopes that Beijing’s calls will influence the West and force the latter to make concessions on the Ukraine issue.
Russia is using China’s calls for peace talks to pressure the West into making concessions in Ukraine. This was reported by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on March 7 repeated his call for negotiations and assured that Beijing “maintains an objective and impartial position” towards the war in Ukraine.
“Russia will continue to use such appeals to promote familiar information operations aimed at persuading the West to make concessions,” the analysts explained.
ISW recalled how on March 2, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin and China’s Special Representative for Eurasia Li Hui met in Moscow.
“Galuzin and Lee noted that it is impossible to discuss an agreement with Ukraine without the participation of Russia and without taking into account Moscow’s security interests,” the experts added.
Analysts note that China has not publicly explained the details of its 12-point peace plan announced in early 2023. Therefore, Moscow will continue to support Beijing’s calls for negotiations to advance operations of Kremlin information on the issue.
As you know, a week ago China sent special envoy Li Hui to Ukraine, Russia and EU countries “to prepare for peace negotiations.” This is his second tour. After the first trip, Li Hui announced a consensus on the “crisis” in Ukraine.
Earlier, Ukraine invited Chinese leader Xi Jinping to the Peace Summit in Switzerland based on the previously proposed Peace Formula.
However, a representative of China was not among the participants in the fourth meeting of national security advisers on the Peace Formula on January 14 in Davos.
