Extremists are preparing attacks in crowded areas in the Russian capital over the next 48 hours. US citizens should avoid large gatherings. This is stated on the website of the United States Embassy in Russia.
The embassy is monitoring reports that extremists are planning to attack large gatherings in Moscow, including concerts, in the near future, it said.
Americans are also urged to monitor local media for updates and be attentive to what is happening around them. The US State Department has raised the danger level for travel to the Russian Federation to the maximum level of four.
Shortly after this disclaimer was published, the US Embassy website went down.
The British Embassy in Moscow also issued a similar warning. London recommended completely refraining from traveling to the aggressor country or considering the possibility of leaving the country.
The diplomatic department noted that “the situation in Russia is unpredictable” and that “travel insurance may be canceled” if the British travel to the Russian Federation contrary to recommendations.
Russian authorities have not yet commented on the situation.
