France has enshrined the right to abortion in its Constitution. The majority of legislators voted in favor (780), while 72 were against. According to polls, 80% of French people believe that abortion is legal.

France became the first country in the world where the right to abortion is enshrined in the Constitution.
Abortion has been legal in the country for 49 years, but current President Emmanuel Macron promised to secure this right constitutionally.
Le Monde writes that the bill provides for amendments to Article 34 of the French Constitution, according to which “the law defines the conditions under which women’s guaranteed freedom to voluntarily terminate a pregnancy is exercised.”
