For nearly a decade, Apple has prevented third-party app developers from informing users about cheaper music subscription services outside the App Store.
The European Commission has fined Apple more than 1.8 billion euros for violating App Store rules for music streaming providers. The EC press service reported this on Monday, March 4.
The regulator found that Apple, in violation of EU antitrust laws, prevented third-party app developers from informing users about cheaper music subscription services outside the App Store in for almost a decade.
The European Commission was reportedly investigating Apple following a complaint from Spotify in 2019, and the Financial Times reported in February that the regulator would fine the iPhone and iPad maker an estimated €500 million.
It was previously reported that Spain’s National Competition Commission (CNMC) has imposed fines worth 194.15 million euros on Apple and Amazon for possible anti-competitive actions in the online market.
