An earthquake of magnitude 5.3 occurred in Kazakhstan

The head of the Emergency Situations Department of the city of Almaty, Nurlan Atygaev, said that the shaking may repeat in the city.

In Kazakhstan, a strong earthquake occurred near the city of Almaty. NUR.KZ reported this on Monday, March 4, with reference to the city’s emergency department.

The epicenter of the earthquake was reported to be 31 km south of Almaty. According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center, its magnitude is 5.3. No casualties or injuries were reported.

The head of Almaty’s Emergency Situations Department, Nurlan Atygaev, said the tremors could repeat in the city.

“At the moment, the threat of repeated aftershocks remains, processing the data on the earthquake that occurred,” Atygaev warned.

Almaty International Airport reported that after the earthquake, all services were operating as normal, and no damage was found on the runway.
