The German Ministry of Defense confirmed the interception of a conversation between officials on Taurus missiles.
German military intelligence is actually investigating an incident regarding alleged conversations between Bundeswehr officers about the possible use of long-range Taurus cruise missiles in Ukraine. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said this during his visit to the Vatican, Ukrinform reported on Saturday, March 2.
According to him, this report is a “very serious matter” that needs to be investigated quickly.
“So now we need to know very carefully, very intensively and very quickly – it is also necessary,” added Scholz.
The agency also reported that the German Ministry of Defense confirmed the interception of a conversation between missile officials.
“We can confirm in principle that a conversation between officers took place and was intercepted… But we cannot now say with certainty whether changes were made to the recorded or written version that circulated among the social network,” said a Bundeswehr spokesman.
He added that an investigation will be conducted not only into how the information was leaked, but also whether the version circulating on the Internet was changed in some parts.
Earlier, Russian propagandists outlined the contents of a conversation between the German Air Force Inspector General Ingo Gerharz and three officials about the details of the possible delivery to Ukraine and the potential use of Taurus missiles. This caused a scandal in German politics.
The officials’ conversation seemed to concern the theoretical possibilities of Ukraine using the German Taurus missiles, including that they contain sensitive information.
According to Olaf Scholz, Germany is not transferring the Taurus missiles to Ukraine because they could hit targets in Moscow.
