The document, adopted on March 1 in Kharkov by the President of Ukraine and the Prime Minister of the Netherlands, provides for two billion euros in military assistance from the Netherlands this year, as well as further defense assistance over the next ten years.
According to the agreement, the Netherlands also supports Ukraine’s future membership in the EU and NATO.
The document also defines assistance priorities in the field of air defense, artillery, naval and long-range weapons, with a special emphasis on strengthening the Ukrainian Air Force.
A 24-hour emergency response mechanism in the event of repeated military aggression against Ukraine has also been defined.
Let us recall that on February 24, Ukraine signed similar security agreements with Italy and Canada, and earlier, on February 22, with Denmark.
The document contains a powerful military block, providing for the provision of modern military equipment and support to the defense industry to Ukraine. The priority is to provide air defense, artillery, armored vehicles, support for naval and long-range capabilities and, in particular, the Air Force, the Office of the President of Ukraine said.
The Office of the President calls the block on Russia’s responsibility in the agreement with the Netherlands “the strongest” among all the already signed bilateral agreements – it also talks about the special tribunal for Russian aggression in The Hague.
According to the Dutch Ministry of Defense, the country will supply patrol boats and landing ships to Ukraine. The Netherlands also allocated 250 million euros to the Czech initiative to urgently order large quantities of artillery shells for Ukraine.
The package included 14 rigid hull inflatable boats (RHIBs), eight militarized river patrol boats and CB90 attack boats.
Kharkov, visited by the leaders of the two countries, is under constant threat of Russian missile attacks.
We can talk for a long time about how to shoot down the S-300. We understand what is missing. We know how high the risks are when a missile hits a civilian target a minute later. We understand that comprehensive protection is needed here. And the most important thing is that we should not only act by strengthening air defense in Kharkov and the region, but also need to push the Russians as far back as possible, Zelensky said at a joint press conference with Rutte in Kharkov.
According to Zelensky, if the enemy is not pushed further away, it will be difficult to defend Kharkov.
