The Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights reported on the meeting held on February 29 with family members of fallen soldiers.

“At the request of family members of military personnel who have complaints about the long time taken to identify the unknown bodies of defenders, our institute invited representatives of government agencies to talk , find out the reasons and discuss ways to help solve the problem,” he said.

The Ombudsman reported that today, according to the head of the Ministry of Health, more than 2,800 bodies and fragments have been identified. The process of finding their relatives to come home for the funeral continues.

According to government officials, relatives could not find the bodies of the defenders because they had not been handed over to the Ukrainian side. However, the process of repatriation of corpses takes place and is reported to the public.

We remind you that on February 16, Ukraine and Russia exchanged the bodies of the dead. The bodies of 58 defenders were returned to territory controlled by the Ukrainian government.

As you know, Ukraine and Russia regularly exchange military bodies. On January 26, the bodies of 77 fighters were returned. In two years of work, it is possible to bring home the bodies of more than 2,000 Ukrainian soldiers.
