Radio Liberty showed the location of the A-50 using Planet Labs images.
The plane is parked in the city of Taganrog, namely at Taganrog-Yuzhny Airport. This is only 130 km from the combat line in the Donetsk region. This is evidenced by a new photo for February 29.
An aircraft of this type was also photographed at the airport in September 2023 and February 15, 2024. However, it was not at the airport in the photo on February 28, which may indicate that this aircraft was used.
In February 2024, the Ukrainian Air Force reported the downing of two A-50s over the Sea of Azov, at least one of which was based in Russia at the Anapa airfield, which is located significantly further from the combat line.
Defense forces destroyed 13 Russian military aircraft in February.
Ten Su-34s, two Su-35s and one A-50 will no longer drop bombs on Ukrainian military and civilians, and will not coordinate massive missile attacks on Ukrainian cities and communities. “I am grateful and proud of our soldiers who achieved such results,” Zelensky wrote on the social network.
According to him, this achievement not only weakens Russia’s ability to inflict further suffering and destruction on Ukraine and its people, but also demonstrates that Ukraine is capable of achieving significant victories on the battlefield.
