Ukraine should have the right to use these weapons against military targets and on Russian territory, they believe in Helsinki.
Finnish weapons could be used to strike Russian territory; the country has not imposed any restrictions on military aid provided to Ukraine. This was said by the head of the Defense Committee of the Finnish Parliament Jukka Kopra, Yle reports on Wednesday, February 28.
“As far as I know, Finland has not imposed such restrictions, and Ukraine should have the right to use these weapons against military targets and on Russian territory,” said Jukka Kopra.
At the same time, Finnish Defense Minister Antti Gäkkänen said that restrictions on the use of weapons were introduced mainly by countries that provided Ukraine with long-range weapons.
At the same time, the Deputy Chairman of the Defense Committee Mikko Savola said that the weapons provided by Finland “in principle” can be used on the territory of Russia. However, the range of Finnish weapons is shorter than, for example, long-range missiles.
The issue arose when the new commander of the Estonian Defense Forces, Andrus Merilo, said in an interview with Yle on Wednesday that the West had made a mistake by limiting the use of the weapons it provided to Ukraine only on Ukrainian territory.
It was previously reported that Finland will transfer arms worth 190 million euros to Ukraine, but details were not provided. And in December 2023, Finland transferred weapons worth 106 million euros to Ukraine. Then its content was also not revealed.
