The Hungarian parliament has elected the head of the constitutional court, Tamas Szujok, a member of Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s Fidesz party, as the country’s new president.

This was reported today, February 26, by the Hungarian publication Telex.
134 Hungarian deputies voted for the corresponding decision, five were against, and there were no abstentions.
Shuek has already taken the oath. He will take office on March 5. Until then, the Speaker of Parliament, László Kövér, will serve as interim president.
Orbán became the first to congratulate the new Hungarian president.
Shuek was born in 1956. He is educated as a lawyer. From 2000 to 2014, he served as Honorary Consul of Hungary in Austria; since 2014, Schujek became a member of the country’s constitutional court, which he headed in 2016.
