134 deputies voted for the appointment of Shuyok as president, five opposed.
Šujok is a member of Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s Fidesz party. He has sworn. Hungary’s new president will take office on March 5. Until then, the Speaker of the Parliament, László Kövér, will serve as interim president.
Tamás Šujok was born in 1956. He received a lawyer’s education. From 2000 to 2014 he served as Honorary Consul of Hungary in Austria. In 2014, Shuyok became a member of the Constitutional Court of Hungary, and in 2016 he headed it.
