Maria Pevchikh, an employee of the Anti-Corruption Foundation (FBK), created in 2011 by Russian oppositionist Alexei Navalny, said that Navalny was killed on February 16 because his associates were able to agree on his exchange for Russian FSB officer Vadim “Sokolov” Krasikov, who was in Germany.

This is stated in a video published today, February 26, on Navalny’s YouTube channel.
56-year-old Krasikov was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2021 for the August 2019 murder of former Chechen field commander Zelimkhan Khangoshvili in Berlin.
Pevchikh claims that in early February, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin was offered to exchange Krasikov for Navalny and two American citizens. According to her, she received confirmation that negotiations on the exchange were indeed underway and were now at the final stage on the evening of February 15. The very next day Navalny died.
Pevchikh stated that:
- the FBK team, realizing that with the start of a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Putin, who began killing tens of thousands of people, would “stop at nothing” and the threat to Navalny’s life had increased significantly, found a way to “free” him from prison – this is a humanitarian exchange ( Russian spies in exchange for political prisoners);
- a list of other political prisoners who need to be urgently removed from Russian prisons was also formed;
- the famous investigative journalist Hristo Grozev allegedly helped implement this plan;
- Instead of a possible few months, the plan dragged on for two years due to constant obstacles from Russian and Western officials. Despite this, by December 2023 the plan was in effect.
According to her, although the plan was kept secret, traces of its preparation can be seen in the media. In particular, in a recent interview with the host of the American Fox News channel Tucker Carlson, Putin, without naming names, confirmed to Carlson the negotiations on the exchange of Krasikov.
“I’m telling you this story so that you have an answer to the question – why Navalny was killed now,” Pevchikh emphasized. “They made it clear to Putin that the only way to get Krasikov is to exchange him for Navalny. Putin thought: “I will not tolerate Navalny free. Since we are ready to change Krasikov in principle, we just need to get rid of the subject of the bargain and replace him with someone else.”
This is completely illogical, absolutely irrational, this is the behavior of a crazy mafioso,” she added.
It should be added that the head of Ukrainian intelligence, Kirill Budanov, recently said that Navalny died due to a blood clot.
I may disappoint you, but what we know is that he really died from a blood clot,” Budanov noted, answering questions from journalists.
Navalny could be exchanged for the Tiergarten killer in the coming months.
